Last weekend, Nick, Derek (the dog), and I packed up the car and headed to Saron, Dinbych (Denbigh), North Wales for a weekend that was equal parts cosy, relaxing, and filled with a few unexpected highlights—like feeding goats and lounging in front of a fire! This hidden gem of a cottage sits on a working farm, and if you’re looking for a dog-friendly stay in the north wales countryside, you’re in for a treat.
Dog-Friendly Bliss
Let’s start with one of the biggest selling points for us: this place is seriously dog-friendly. Not just “we'll tolerate your dog,” but genuinely welcoming. Derek was living his best life from the moment we arrived. They go all out here—providing poo bags, a dog bowl, and even a towel just for him. I mean, how thoughtful is that? They can accommodate up to three dogs, which is almost unheard of, and made us feel like Derek was as important a guest as we were!
A Cosy Cottage With All the Trimmings
The cottage itself? Oh, where to start! It’s the kind of place that wraps you in warmth the moment you step inside. With its crackling log burner, we spent our nights curled up with wine and cheese, basking in the glow. The outdoor space was perfect for both Derek and us to explore, with a fire pit and wooden hot tub that practically begs for some late-night stargazing. Plus, there’s nothing better than waking up to the sound of birds chirping in the morning—completely beats the sound of traffic!
Meet the Goats!
As much as Derek loved the place, I think the stars of the show for me were the goats—Dot, Elin, and Ffredi. I mean, who doesn’t want to feed goats breakfast while on holiday?! These adorable little characters made the whole experience even more special, and I could have spent hours watching their antics. It’s not every day you get to stay somewhere where feeding farm animals is part of the morning routine!
The Best Welcome Hamper Ever
Now, let me talk about the welcome hamper, because WOW. It was filled with local Welsh delights—bara brith, Welshcakes, Welsh-roasted coffee, and some absolutely divine Welsh cheese. We used it to create the perfect grazing breakfast platter, and our cosy nights in front of the fire became wine and cheese heaven. Supporting local brands always adds that extra touch, and this hamper was hands-down the best I’ve ever seen.
A Host With Heart
We also have to give a shout-out to Iona, our lovely host. She was incredible! Iona made sure we had everything we needed, from directions to the best local spots for food and exploring, to checking the hot tub daily (yep, there’s a hot tub!), and making sure we had goat feed on hand. She was super attentive without being intrusive—just the perfect balance of caring. You could really tell she puts her heart into making sure every guest has a great time.
Exploring the Area
When we did venture out, there was plenty to do nearby. Llyn Brenig is just a short drive away and offers everything from walking and cycling trails to a spot of fishing. If history is more your thing, Denbigh Castle is close by, and it’s well worth a visit. We didn’t have time for everything, but it’s safe to say there’s something for everyone in this part of Wales.
Location and Price
If you’re tempted to check it out for yourself (and trust me, you should be!), this dog-friendly gem is located in Saron, North Wales, with prices starting from around £150 per night and sleeps 6.
You can find all the details and book your stay at Brenig Cottage Escapes. It’s the perfect spot for a peaceful getaway—whether you’re traveling with dogs, family, or just want a romantic escape with plenty of goats for company!
We’ll definitely be heading back to this little slice of heaven. After all, when you find a place that Derek, Dot, Elin, and Ffredi all approve of, you know you’ve struck gold!
